Biography

Kristofer Hivju is a Norwegian actor who was born in Oslo and trained at the Danish branch of the Russian Academy of Theatre Arts, finishing there in 2004. His earliest screen work included the television series Fox Grønland and Seks som oss, and he performed on stage at the Grusomhetens Teater and Trøndelag Teater while also writing scripts for short films. He drew his widest notice as the wildling Tormund Giantsbane, a part he played in 33 episodes of HBO's fantasy series Game of Thrones from 2013 to 2019. His films include the science fiction remake The Thing (2011), After Earth (2013), Force Majeure (2014), The Fate of the Furious (2017), and Downhill (2020). On television he later appeared in Twin (2019), The Witcher (2021), The Gentlemen (2024), and The Iris Affair (2025), and he voiced Andvari in Twilight of the Gods (2024). He also appears in In the Grey (2026).
