Plot summary

Francisca lives on a farm with her mother and father, where the family raises animals. Her mother, a former surgeon, shows her the anatomy of the family's animals, including how to remove their eyes, and tells her about St. Francis of Assisi. One afternoon a door-to-door salesman named Charlie asks to use the bathroom, and her mother lets him in against her better judgment. Charlie pulls a gun on her. When Francisca's father comes home he finds Charlie over the body of his wife in the tub, knocks him out and chains him in the barn. The two of them bury her in the yard behind the house.
