Plot summary
Winter 1986 in the small Canadian town of Hobart, still suffering from a recession. Tim, a student who believes himself more sophisticated than his provincial classmates, enters a student exchange program and hopes the French student will share his love of cultured things. Stéphane arrives instead: outgoing, fashion conscious, hungry for sex and with no interest in culture. He charms the people around him with ease, among them Diane, a teaching assistant, and Gary Rothbauer, her boyfriend, a school gym teacher who also works part time as a policeman.
