Plot summary
In Kingston, Pennsylvania, Linda Sinclair teaches English and lives alone with her books. Jason Sherwood, once her best student, comes back to town after his playwriting career in New York stalled. He has written a play called The Chrysalis, and Linda believes the school should stage it. Carl Kapinas, who teaches drama, agrees. Jason's father, Dr. Tom Sherwood, wants him to study law instead. Principal Trudie Slocum and Vice Principal Phil Pelaski say the play's ending is too dark for students and the production costs too much.
