Plot summary
Paul Bradford writes software for a living and shares his home with Gwen, his girlfriend, and with X-CaliBR8, a personal computer he built and gave a voice, which he reaches through a neural link. Gwen is jealous of how much of Paul's day the machine absorbs and fears it leaves little room for the two of them. Mestema, a sorcerer of great age, has beaten every rival magic has offered him and now wants to test himself against modern technology. He carries Paul and Gwen off to a realm under his control, offering Gwen to whoever comes out ahead. Paul receives a wearable copy of X-CaliBR8, a wrist band, and Mestema drops him into one dangerous setting after another.
