Plot summary
Sutekh, a demon lord, sends three small servants called the Totems to kill anyone who holds the secret of animation, the magic by which André Toulon once gave his puppets life. At the Phoenix Division, a research team at work on artificial intelligence is nearing that same secret. One of them, Rick Myers, looks after the Bodega Bay Inn and runs his experiments in the building. The night his friends Susie, Lauren and Cameron come to stay, Lauren, who has psychic ability, finds Toulon's trunk, holding puppets, his diary and vials of the life-giving fluid. The friends try the fluid and the puppets wake one by one: Pinhead, Six-Shooter, Tunneler and Jester. Cameron, a rival of Rick on the project, wants the formula for his own gain.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Puppet Master 4 (1993)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- When Guy Rolfe arrived on set to play André Toulon, he refused to leave his hotel room and take part in the shoot, so Charles Band slid the actor's entire paycheck in cash under the door.
- The puppet Decapitron began as a life-sized robot in an unmade screenplay also called Decapitron, written by Danny Bilson and Paul De Meo and directed by Peter Manoogian; it was to be Empire International Pictures's biggest-budgeted film, planned for 1989 but scrapped when the company closed in 1988.
- Torch, a puppet from Puppet Master II, was left out of the fourth film for economic reasons: the filmmakers could afford the puppet's fire effects and a fire marshal for only one installment. Torch still appeared on the poster and covers and returned in Puppet Master 5.
- Joanna Pettet, Judy Geeson and Camilla Sparv were all considered for the role of Dr. Leslie Piper in Puppet Master 4, but Stacie Randall was cast instead.
- Decapitron's head morphing into the likeness of André Toulon was achieved with computer animation and by filming Guy Rolfe against a blue screen.
- Teresa Hill, who plays Lauren, was given the chance to appear in a Doritos commercial during production but was not allowed a break between filming because the production schedule was so limited.
