Plot summary
Dr. Julian Blair spends his time on unconventional human brain wave research when his wife Helen dies in an auto accident. Grief pushes him to redirect the work toward contacting the dead, and neither his daughter Anne nor his research assistant Richard nor his colleagues can talk him out of it; they warn him he is entering forbidden ground. He moves his laboratory into an isolated mansion in New England and keeps trying to reach Helen. His servant Karl helps him, and Mrs. Walters, a medium he has fallen in with, believes in his work and appears to hold a sinister influence over him.
