Plot summary
Charlie Berns, a veteran Hollywood producer, has given up on both his career and his life. His nephew Lionel, an aspiring screenwriter, arrives from New Jersey with a script about the 19th-century British statesman Benjamin Disraeli. Charlie reads about Bobby Mason, an action star and recent convert to Judaism who wants a role, and agrees to make the movie. He never reads the literate, PBS-style script, turning it instead into a Middle Eastern espionage adventure called Ben Disraeli: Freedom Fighter. To attract a buyer he leaves his agency and plants false rumors, which draw the interest of Paragon Studios. The studio brings in Deidre Hearn, the project developer assigned to watch over the production.
