Plot summary
Grug holds his family to the survival rules he has learned, keeping the Croods in their cave except for short food-gathering trips. Eep, his teenage daughter, chafes at the restrictions and wonders why her family stays in the dark. One night she slips out after seeing a light and meets Guy, a more evolved boy who carries fire and travels with a sloth named Belt. Guy tells her the world is about to end and offers to take her away with him, but Eep chooses her family. He leaves her a shell horn in case she needs help, but among the Croods it is destroyed. Then an earthquake brings down the cave, and the Croods flee into a jungle below their home mountains.
