Plot summary
At NASA, ground control loses radio contact with a capsule returning from the moon and assumes the astronauts aboard have died. One of them reappears on the monitor and asks that the spacecraft be destroyed, so ground control presses the button and the ship explodes, and the scientists Steve Curan and Max Weitzberg learn that the astronaut carried an alien lifeform. Meanwhile, on a California beach, science student Paul Lawrence and Marta Farnstrom come across a severed human arm inside an astronaut's sleeve, and Paul brings it home to study. The arm comes to life, and the alien force that animates it takes hold of Paul's mind.
