Plot summary
At the Amityville house, Lorraine Warren sits with the Lutz family during a seance and is drawn into a vision of a demonic nun and of Ed dying. Years later, in Enfield, England, Janet Hodgson and her sister Margaret hear a growling voice in their bedroom that claims the house for itself. A dresser is shoved against their door, and police officers who search the home watch a chair slide across a room on its own. When a news crew interviews the family, Janet answers in the voice of Bill Wilkins, an old man who says he lived and died there. Paranormal researchers Maurice Grosse and Anita Gregory look into the case, and a priest asks the Warrens to take it up, though Lorraine fears her vision of Ed's death may come true.

The Conjuring 2's antagonist was first designed as a winged demon; in additional photography in March 2016 James Wan scrapped that and changed the demon into a nun, casting Bonnie Aarons, to make the film more grounded.- After an inexplicable series of events while the first Conjuring film was being made, the producers of the sequel brought in a priest from the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Santa Fe to bless the set.
- The film's haunting comes from the Enfield poltergeist case in the London Borough of Enfield from 1977 to 1979, an alleged haunting of two sisters, aged 11 and 13, at their mother's council house.
- The Conjuring 2 was the highest-grossing horror film of 2016 and the second-highest-grossing horror film of all time, behind only 1973's The Exorcist, which took $441.3 million.
