Plot summary
The Vienna Royal Theatre has a physician, Dr. Friedrich Hohner, and jealousy makes him kill the soprano he loves. Ten years afterward, a new voice is heard at the opera house: Angela Klatt, a young singer whose singing recalls the diva Hohner lost. His mania comes back. He means to have her sing for him alone, and he will silence her rather than let anyone else hear her.
