Plot summary
A quake in rural Australia damages WALDO, a storage site for nuclear waste, and a leak threatens the groundwater for hundreds of miles around. Heinrich Schmidt, an engineer caught in the accident and badly contaminated, wants the public told. His boss would rather the whole thing stay quiet. Heinrich gets out of the facility, and, hurt and lost in the woods, is taken in by a vacationing car mechanic, Larry Stilson, a Vietnam veteran, and his wife Carmel. As Heinrich struggles to piece together what happened to him, men sent by his boss close in on the three of them.
