Steve Bisley
Biography
Steve Bisley is an Australian actor and writer who grew up on a small farm in New South Wales and trained at the National Institute of Dramatic Art, graduating in 1977. While still a student he made his film debut in Summer City (1977), then was cast as Jim Goose, partner to Mel Gibson's character, in Mad Max (1979), which became a cult classic. He took the lead in the thriller The Chain Reaction (1980), and his later films include The Big Steal (1990), Red Hill (2010) and The Great Gatsby (2013), where he played Dan Cody. On television he was Detective Jack Christey in Water Rats and appeared in Police Rescue, Sea Patrol and Doctor Doctor. He won a Penguin Award for the television movie The Clean Machine and published memoirs including Stillways.

A role that slipped away
Bisley has said that after reading the script for Baz Luhrmann's 1996 film Romeo + Juliet, he thought it was going nowhere, so he declined a part in it.
Big break
Near the end of his NIDA course, director George Miller approached Bisley and Mel Gibson to audition for Mad Max; both won parts, and Bisley played Jim 'Goose'.

Bisley enrolled at the National Institute of Dramatic Art after several years of various jobs, graduating with an acting degree in 1977 alongside Mel Gibson and Judy Davis.
