A man secretly married to two women feels the pressure of his deceit.

Harry and Eve Graham are trying to adopt a baby. The head of the agency senses Harry is keeping a secret and does some investigating. He soon discovers Harry has done an unusual amount of traveling from his home in San Francisco to Los Angeles. Harry gets tracked down in LA where he has a second wife and a baby. Via flashbacks, Harry tells the adoption agent how he ended up in two marriages.

Harry Graham leads a double life and is caught out when he and his wife Eve apply to adopt a baby. They live in San Francisco but in fact, Harry has a second wife Phyllis and a baby living in Los Angeles. When Mr. Jordan from the adoption agency finds his second home Harry tells him how it came about. He loves Eve but she seemed to be more interested in their family run business and they had grown apart over the years. While on a trip to Los Angeles he met Phyllis Martin and after spending time together, he realized that he had better break off the relationship before they go too far. Unfortunately, the relationship continued and when Phyllis became pregnant, he married her. Now that he's been found out, he must face the consequences.

Husband and wife Harry and Eve Graham own and operate their own successful freezer business in San Francisco, Harry the traveling salesman taking him frequently to Los Angeles, and Eve the administrative genius. They have known for years that they could not have their own children, but have only recently made the decision to adopt, their agency representative, Mr. Jordan, who tells them that he is at the background check stage of their application. Due in part to what he notices is Harry's unease with that pronouncement, Mr. Jordan plays a hunch and discovers that Harry is leading a double life with another family, complete not only with wife, Phyllis Graham née Martin, but infant son, David Graham, in Los Angeles. Confronted by Mr. Jordan, Harry does not only not deny any of it, but proceeds to tell Mr. Jordan the story of how he met Phyllis and the progression of their relationship to marriage and a child. With mixed emotions of hate for Harry doing something knowingly illegal and admiration for the rationale for doing it, Mr. Jordan has to decide what to do with this information.
