Plot summary
In 1935 England, a vicar at Morley Hall murders his wife out of jealousy and takes his own life. Bishop Malachi asks the physician to conceal the crime. Three years later, Linus Forster becomes the new vicar and moves in with his wife Marianne and her daughter Adelaide, born out of wedlock and presented as her niece. Linus regards intimacy as a sin, straining the marriage. Adelaide plays with dolls and talks to invisible people. Mirrors return reflections late, and Marianne sees shadowy figures. Harry Reed warns Linus about the house's history as a monastery of the Minassian Order.
