Plot summary

A spacecraft from another world comes down in deep woods in 1809 and stays there, undisturbed, for two hundred years. Hank Taylor, who has retired from farming, takes down a dead tree on his land and finds a large metallic object in the ground beneath it. A woman arrives at the isolated farm with her boyfriend, a surgeon, to visit her aunt and uncle. Power returns to the buried craft and its hibernating occupants wake. The household takes refuge in the farmhouse while covert government agents monitor the farm, then converge on it to recover the craft.
