Plot summary
Arlen Faber wrote Me and God, a spiritual best-seller, and now lives anonymously in Philadelphia, refusing to help his publisher mark the book's twentieth anniversary. Kris Lucas, a bookstore owner just out of rehab, discovers Arlen's address and proposes a trade: books to sell, and one question about spiritual matters answered each day. A back injury sends Arlen crawling to the clinic of Elizabeth, a chiropractor and single mother who moved to the city with her son to start over after her husband left. She is wary of involvement, and Arlen, whose father died of Alzheimer's, is adrift and hunting for answers to hard questions.
