Plot summary
Texas City, Texas, has a stretch of marsh and oil fields where the bodies of murdered women keep turning up, an area locals call the Killing Fields. Detective Brian Heigh, a New York City transplant, and his partner Mike Souder work the cases, though the crime scenes lie outside their jurisdiction. Detective Pam Stall, Mike's ex-wife, asks them for help with a missing woman, another case that is not theirs. Heigh, a family man, also watches out for Ann Sliger, a girl on probation whose mother lets her fend for herself against the friends her mother brings around. The story is loosely based on killings along the Interstate 45 corridor between Houston and Galveston.
