Plot summary
Odd Thomas cooks in Pico Mundo, a small town on the edge of the desert, and he can see the dead. He also sees bodachs, creatures no one else can see that swarm wherever suffering is on its way; the more of them gather, the worse the trouble will be. He helps Chief Wyatt Porter, his friend and mentor, with murder cases, and he loves Stormy Llewellyn, who knows about his gift. A stranger passes him at work, swarming with bodachs, and Odd follows him home. The man is Bob Robertson, and a doorway in his house is letting bodachs into the world. Odd brings his suspicions to Porter, who sends two deputies to keep watch.

- The release was delayed by legal action from Two Out of Ten Productions against Outsource Media Group for breach of contract; the suit alleged $25 million should have been spent on prints and advertising for a U.S. release, and another $10 million to refinance certain loans.
- Stephen Sommers said Anton Yelchin was his only choice to play Odd Thomas, although early casting announcements had included 50 Cent as Shamus Cocobolo as well as Lily Collins and Tim Robbins, none of whom ended up appearing.
- Odd Thomas began its theatrical roll-out in the Philippines on 17 July 2013, where it debuted at number six with $52,623 from 35 screens and ended its two-week run with just $118,835.
- Novelist Dean Koontz, whose book the film is based on, enjoyed the adaptation, saying “It is so wonderful that I am whacked flat by happiness.”
