Harry Woods
Biography
Harry Woods was an American film actor who was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and had worked as a millinery salesman before he began acting. He appeared in close to 250 movies from 1923 to 1961 and also on television, and his career lasted about thirty-five years. He was best known for playing the gangster Alky Briggs in the Marx Brothers movie Monkey Business (1931). Woods rarely played ordinary henchmen. He was usually cast as the brains behind a gang, such as a banker or saloon owner, and as the muscle behind local villainy. Fellow screen villain Roy Barcroft credited Woods with teaching him how to play a bad guy. Woods retired from acting in 1961 and died in 1968.
