Plot summary
Robin of Loxley and his band keep to Sherwood Forest while King Richard is away on crusade. The Sheriff of Nottingham's men hunt a wounded rider through the woods. The man carries a gold falcon emblem, and Robin takes him in. He speaks of danger at Bawtry. Marian, who had taken Robin for a common outlaw, arranges a meeting at an inn, where the Sheriff offers money and even a pardon for the wounded man. Robin refuses and escapes his pursuers. The Sheriff and the Earl of Newark want a crusader's estate for themselves, and Hubert Walter, Archbishop of Canterbury and Chancellor of England, speaks against the claim.
