Plot summary
A tribe of Hebrews crosses the desert in search of a permanent home, and reaches the Jordan River. Close by lie two rich cities, Sodom and Gomorrah, whose salt mines are worked by slaves and whose people live in luxury. Queen Bera rules the cities, and her brother Astaroth, the prince of Sodom, plots against her. Bera lets the Hebrews farm land outside the cities, expecting them to act as a shield against the nomadic Helamites. Lot, their leader, meets Ildith, a slave in the queen's household. Though she is used to comfort, she joins the Hebrew camp, befriends Lot's daughters Shuah and Maleb, and she and Lot plan to marry.
