Nigel Green

Biography

Nigel Green was an English actor who trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and worked at the Old Vic and in Stratford, playing Edmund in King Lear with John Gielgud. Born in Pretoria and raised in London, he often played military types and men of action. His early films included Reach for the Sky (1956) and Beat Girl (1960), and he played Little John in Sword of Sherwood Forest (1960). He became known for Hercules in Jason and the Argonauts (1963) and Colour Sergeant Frank Bourne in Zulu (1964). Later roles included Sir Denis Nayland Smith in The Face of Fu Manchu (1965), Major Dalby in The Ipcress File (1965), and parts in Khartoum (1966), Tobruk (1967), Play Dirty (1969), The Masque of the Red Death (1964), The Skull (1965) and Countess Dracula (1971). His penultimate role was in The Ruling Class (1972).
