Plot summary
Baron leads four armed men who present themselves as Secret Service agents and take over the house of Ellen, a war widow, in the town of Suddenly. The house gives them a clear firing position for their plan to kill the President during his visit there, and they fool the local police except for Todd. Todd, a deputy and former war hero who served with Ellen's late husband, is now the town drunk and has long carried feelings for her that she does not return. When he comes to the house, he is immediately suspicious of Baron, but nobody listens to a drunk.
