Plot summary
At a juvenile detention camp, Billy Wyatt meets Nathan Stein, a sickly fellow inmate, and gains the respect of Carlos and of Jerome Timmons Dye, who goes by J.T. His indifference toward the people trying to rehabilitate him puts him at odds with the camp director, Montgomery De La Cruz, and with the head guard, Conrad Sean Lewis. He also bonds with Tina Simms, the camp nurse, who is recovering from drug addiction, and with Emmit Till, the local sheriff, who seems to want to help him.
