Plot summary
At the end of The River Tour in 1981, Bruce Springsteen is a rising star, and his manager and producer Jon Landau rents him a house near Freehold, New Jersey, to lie low from his fame. His record label expects another hit after "Hungry Heart". Matt, his friend and mechanic, takes him to the house in Colts Neck, where he buys a Chevrolet Camaro. He plays with local bands at the Stone Pony and meets Faye Romano, the younger sister of an old classmate. To trim studio costs, Bruce proposes preparing a demo himself, and asks Mike Batlan, his guitar technician, to set up a four-track recorder in a bedroom. His father Douglas is an alcoholic, and Bruce remembers once taking a baseball bat to defend his mother Adele.
