Plot summary
Whitney Houston, the American singer and actress, is the subject of a documentary that traces her life and career through unseen archival footage, exclusive recordings and rare performances, alongside interviews with family members and the people who worked with her. Filming began in July 2016, and around seventy people were interviewed, among them her mother, her brothers, a family friend and a longtime personal assistant. Her mother spoke in Newark, New Jersey, and other interviews took place in Los Angeles, New York City and Atlanta. The filmmakers gathered more than 1,500 tapes, including 250 masters, along with 2,000 stills and private footage found in Japan, the Netherlands and Los Angeles. Songs from her own catalog appear on the soundtrack.
