Peter Parker is a shy high school student in New York City. During a school visit to a Columbia University genetics lab, a genetically engineered spider bites him, and he falls ill at home. By the next morning he can cling to walls, and he has new strength, speed and senses, plus webbing that comes from his wrists. Harry's father, Norman Osborn, is after a military contract for Oscorp, his own company, and tries an experimental chemical on himself; it gives him superhuman strength and drives him insane. To earn money for a car that would impress Mary Jane Watson, Peter enters an underground wrestling match and wins, only to be cheated out of his earnings.
