Jack Betts

Biography

Jack Betts was an American actor who, under his own name and the alias Hunt Powers, worked in more than 100 film, stage, and television productions from 1953 to 2018. Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, he moved to Miami as a child, studied theater at the University of Miami, and began his career in 1953 in a production of Richard III. He played Chris Devlin on the CBS mystery series Checkmate and Dr. Ken Martin on the early seasons of General Hospital, and he took four roles on Perry Mason. Betts wrote the play Screen Test: Take One. In 1966 he headed to Italy for the spaghetti western Sugar Colt, and he spent several years working in European cinema, frequently billed as Hunt Powers. In America he mostly did television, including a 1982 turn as Mr. Fisher on One Life to Live. He portrayed Henry Balkan in Spider-Man (2002).

About the name
Betts adopted the professional name Hunt Powers for the Italian films he made after moving to Europe in 1966, where he was often credited under that name.
Behind the camera
Betts also wrote a play called Screen Test: Take One. The play concerns a soap opera, and it started on a film set.
