Plot summary
An American airbase in Chișinău, Moldova, is where DARPA engineer Mark Clyne is sent. General Orland's forces are backing the Moldovan government against an insurgency. Delta Force operator Chris Davis has died at the base, and the troops carry Clyne's hyperspectral imaging goggles, which pick up a presence the naked eye cannot see. Signal intelligence dismissed the readings as interference. Clyne treats them as real. CIA case officer Fran Madison reads them as insurgents wearing advanced active camouflage, and her superiors want a sample of it. Orland puts the two of them with a Delta Force team under Major Sessions, bound for Durlești to reach the missing Utah team.
