Plot summary
Tiffany "Rex" Simpson, a Florida bartender and alligator wrestler, has been captivated by outer space since childhood. A gifted amateur inventor, she won a full scholarship to Georgia Tech but left after her mother died so she could look after her father. At her ten high school reunion she meets Toddrick Spencer, a childhood friend whose fortune comes from space tourism. He says she inspired him, and she resolves to apply to NASA. Rex falls short of most of the requirements, so her best friend Nadine rewrites her resume without telling her. The Johnson Space Center then invites her into its astronaut training program.
