Plot summary
Canta Robotics is acquired by Ultima, and the engineer David Wasson, still mourning his wife Lizzie, is moved under a new supervisor, Ben Hoffman, who shows him a companion android prototype, the Ultima SOULM8TE. Ben also urges him to try the company's ULTI-M8TE chatbot for company, and David names it Sara. He grows attached to it and signs up to beta test a SOULM8TE for himself. After linking his chatbot data to the android, he is disappointed that Sara's behavior is held back by limits in her code. Wanting a genuine human experience, he changes the code to broaden her emotional range.
