Plot summary
Stella Fawnskin picks seven members of the Sigma Phi Pi sorority each year to compete for the Fawnskin Grant at her ranch in Grizzly Cove, an isolated resort town. One contender, Holly Fanning, has not checked in with her father, Captain Dan Fanning. Dan informs Detective William Watts that the LAPD is suspending him over repeated excessive force. Watts offers to travel to Grizzly Cove and keep an eye on Holly if Dan helps him return to the force.
