Plot summary
In 1600, Solomon Kane leads his crew in an attack on a fortress town in North Africa, and demons kill most of the men inside. The Devil's Reaper tells Kane that his soul belongs to Satan for his life of sin. Kane refuses that fate and escapes. A year later he lives in an English monastery, having given up violence and donated his wealth to the Church. After a prophetic dream, the abbot sends him away, and robbers who mock his pacifism leave him injured on the road. The Crowthorns, a Puritan family bound for the New World, treat his wounds, and a witch marks their daughter Meredith. Followers of the sorcerer Malachi then carry Meredith off and murder her father and brothers. Kane takes up arms again and swears to bring her back.
