Plot summary
Clint Barkley rides alone through Utah and watches a wild horse roundup, where one black stallion defies the herd and catches his eye. He brings the horse back to its owner, Julie Richards, who runs the Rocking R Ranch, and she gives him a job there. Clint and the horse, Smoky, grow close as he trains him, and Smoky learns to move in time to music. The foreman, Jeff, distrusts the new hired hand, who will not say where he came from. A stranger named Frank turns up and talks Clint into putting in a word so he can be hired as a wrangler.
