Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Silver Linings Playbook (2012)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Anne Hathaway was cast as Tiffany Maxwell but dropped out because of scheduling conflicts with The Dark Knight Rises and creative differences with Russell. Elizabeth Banks, Kirsten Dunst, Angelina Jolie, Blake Lively, Rooney Mara, Rachel McAdams, Andrea Riseborough and Olivia Wilde were also considered for the part.
- Of the eight nominations the film received at the 85th Academy Awards it won one: Lawrence's Best Actress prize, which made her the second-youngest winner in that category, behind only Marlee Matlin in Children of a Lesser God (1986).
- Russell estimates that he rewrote the script twenty times over five years. He was drawn to the story by its family relationships and by the connection he felt to his own son, who has bipolar disorder and OCD.
- Russell did not believe Jennifer Lawrence, 21 at the time of filming, was old enough to play opposite the 37-year-old Cooper, but her audition changed his mind: he admitted that the expressiveness in her eyes and in her face was ageless.
- Lawrence and Cooper had no previous dance experience. In less than a month, Mandy Moore, a choreographer for So You Think You Can Dance, taught them the dance sequences, and she described Cooper as having some real natural dancing ability.
- Tiffany was initially meant to be goth. Lawrence dyed her hair black and did test shoots in heavy goth makeup, but Weinstein disapproved, and the final version of the character kept only small goth touches such as the dark hair and a cross.
- The NFL was critical of the gambling in the film and declined to broadcast an interview with its stars Bradley Cooper and Chris Tucker during Thanksgiving.
