Plot summary
Samantha Lake used to lead a television series and now finds auditions ruled by ageism and body shaming. At a casting call, Chloe Benson, a young actress she once babysat, greets her warmly. A producer pushes Sam toward a rejuvenating procedure at Shell, a beauty company serving celebrities through genetic technology. Sam arrives at the clinic and is about to walk out on the appointment when Dr. Hubert, a Shell scientist, gently reassures her. While she waits, still reluctant, Chloe spots her again and encourages her to carry on. The procedure goes well, and her younger appearance gives her confidence and an invitation to a Christmas party hosted by Shell's chief executive Zoe Shannon, who befriends her. Initially starstruck, Sam notices extravagant sides to Shannon but values the new friendship.

- Elisabeth Moss became pregnant a few months before filming began and told director Max Minghella she could no longer make the film. Rather than lose his lead actress, Minghella adapted the screenplay so Moss could shoot it while in her fifth and sixth month of pregnancy.
