Plot summary
Jennifer and her husband Ray move into the apartment of Mrs. Malatesta, and the property manager, Pappas, tells them the old woman left no trace behind. Going through what was left in the rooms, Jennifer finds a box holding an artificial hand with a quill, the tool Mrs. Malatesta had used to reach the dead. At a Christmas party the guests try the hand as a party gag, and it starts writing a plea for help. Later that night Jennifer finds it forming the name William Graham together with a telephone number. She tells her friend Cindy, then calls the number and hears that William Graham died three weeks earlier.
