Robert Beltran
Biography
Robert Beltran is an American actor known for playing Commander Chakotay on Star Trek: Voyager and for stage work in California. Born in Bakersfield, California, he studied theater arts at California State University, Fresno before moving to Los Angeles. His first film role came in Zoot Suit in 1981, and his breakthrough was the title part in the 1982 dark comedy Eating Raoul. He had a supporting role in Lone Wolf McQuade (1983) and appeared in Night of the Comet (1984). From 1995 to 2001 he played Chakotay, winning a Nosotros Golden Eagle Award in 1997 and earning NCLR Bravo and ALMA Award nominations. On stage, he was a founder and co-director of the East LA Classic Theater Group, and he directed and starred in a 1997 production of Hamlet. He later appeared in Boleros for the Disenchanted in 2009 and had a recurring role on HBO's Big Love.
