Plot summary
A small company plane goes down in the Canadian wilderness with a crew and the Bio-Comp researcher Tara Knowles on board, and those who survive the crash are attacked. Weeks of rescue flights find nothing, so Tara's father, the Bio-Comp executive Harlan Knowles, puts together a team of his own. It includes Clayton Tyne, a local mountain man and tracker; Marla Lawson, an insurance representative; the survival writer Winston Burg; Nikki Adams, a forensic investigator; and Plazz, a computer engineer. The group camps near the suspected crash site, and in the night Marla is hurt by what Clayton calls a grizzly. The next day they find the bear dead, its neck broken. A thunderstorm drives them into a cave, where the drawings in blood look only months old and Harlan finds part of Tara's necklace.
