Plot summary
Sam works at a chocolate factory and is a gifted artist who came home to look after his father, Bill, whose health problems do not stop him from smoking, drinking and eating red meat. Kate owns a bookstore. She keeps turning down Sam's advances, insisting she is not dating. Kate stays close to her mother, Tina, who lives by herself and has Diogenes syndrome, which Kate calls hoarding. At Christmas, Tina gives Kate a set of pictures she has found, and Kate steps away to compose herself. Sam and Kate share a cup of coffee, and both enjoy it. After several gatherings with family and friends, they kiss. Bill and Tina go on a date.
