Plot summary
On December 5, 1492, villagers burned the ship of Niklas, a bishop who plundered and killed alongside his gang. In years when that date falls on a full moon, he and his helpers return as murderers. December 5, 2010 is one of those nights in Amsterdam. Goert, a police detective who has spent decades studying the legend, asks for the Sinterklaas celebrations to be banned and for more patrols, but his superiors send him on leave. Frank, a high school student, is driving to play Sinterklaas at a student housing complex when his car is attacked; two of his friends, dressed as Petes, are killed. The police do not believe his account and arrest him.

- Parental concern arose over the film's poster, which showed Sinterklaas with a mutilated face and a malevolent look; some feared it would confuse and frighten small children who still believe in Sinterklaas, and a legal complaint was filed in October 2010 asking for all the posters to be removed.
- In the court case over the poster, director Dick Maas argued that parents who make their children believe Sinterklaas exists could also tell them the man on the poster was not the real Sinterklaas; the court ruled in his favour, finding the mutilated face not visible enough, and rejected the complaint.
