Lucky Ghost (1942) on Netflix

Plot summary

A judge orders Washington Delaware Jones to leave his hometown for good, and he takes his friend Jefferson with him. The two go looking for somewhere new to live and, both fond of food, settle on becoming food tasters. On the road they pass themselves off as food inspectors and steal chickens from a farm, and the farmer fires at them. They meet the wealthy Brown, whose car has stalled, and his friend Dawson. While the chauffeur is away fetching gas, the four men throw dice, and Washington and Jefferson take everything the other two own, the car among it. The chauffeur drives them on to a country club owned by Dr. Brutus Blake, a swindler with his eye on their new wealth, and the place is haunted by ghosts.
