Noah Young

Biography

Noah Young was a film actor who had first been a champion weightlifter. Born in Cañon City, Colorado, he began working at the Hal Roach studios in 1918 and became a regular in the stock company, playing comic villains in dozens of short comedies. He was a frequent comic foil for Harold Lloyd, appearing in more than fifty pictures with him, and he also worked with Snub Pollard, Charley Chase, and Stan Laurel, including three early Laurel and Hardy comedies in 1927. After leaving Roach that year, he found fewer roles, but Lloyd brought him back for his first talking feature, Welcome Danger (1929). Three further Lloyd features followed through 1934. That same year he rejoined the Roach stock company, receiving his final screen credit in Bum Voyage (1934). Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer then cast him in the musical The Girl of the Golden West (1938), after which he retired from the screen. He died in 1958.
