Trailer

Plot summary

In a Paris hotel, a young American gambler is found strangled, a knotted napkin left at his throat as a signature. The police recognize the pattern: a card-playing killer pulls young American men into a gambling racket, and they expect his next mark to be another one. The detective Higgins asks the French police to hold off so the killer can be caught in the act. Freddie Hunter, a newspaperman from Ohio escorting eight Boy Foresters, plans to stay in France by missing the boat home. On the liner he bumps into Duchess Alexandria and loses interest in leaving. She travels with her father, the Grand Duke Maximillian, and the family is bankrupt, hoping to begin again in the United States. A passenger, C.J. Dabney, offers to introduce Freddie to her, and Freddie presents himself as a millionaire.
