Tom Clegg

Biography

Tom Clegg was an English actor who moved into films as a stuntman after serving in the Household Cavalry and working as a professional boxer, experience that suited his size and tough-guy persona. Born in Leeds, he took small parts in film and television from the 1950s through the 1970s, among them The Flanagan Boy (1953) and such pictures as Moby Dick and This Sporting Life. On television he was cast as toughs and henchmen in series including Dixon of Dock Green, The Saint and The Sweeney, and he appeared in comedy shows such as Hancock's Half Hour, The Benny Hill Show and Till Death Us Do Part. His comedy work led to a semi-regular place in the Carry On series, with Carry on Spying (1964), Carry on Cleo (1964) and Carry On Screaming (1966), in which he played Oddbod. He died in 1996.
