Plot summary
Johnny Flanagan has no education or wealthy background, but the streets taught him to fight. At a carnival boxing tournament he climbs into the ring against a professional and wins, and his trainer Charlie Sullivan collects the winnings from his old friend Sharkey. Sharkey sends him to Giuseppe Vecchi, an influential promoter, whose wife Lorna, a former taxi dancer, is not impressed by him. Johnny vows to win the next fairground fight, and when he does, Giuseppe becomes his promoter and has Johnny, Sharkey and Charlie stay at his countryside estate. Giuseppe wants them all to be one happy family, but Johnny and Lorna do not get along until Lorna's birthday celebration at a nightclub, where Giuseppe insists that the two of them dance together.
