Simon Chandler

Biography

Simon Chandler is a British actor of film, television and stage who began working professionally in 1976. Born in 1953 in Luton and educated at Bedford School, he often plays senior figures in the establishment, among them politicians and top civil servants. His first screen part came in Richard Attenborough's A Bridge Too Far (1977) as Private Simmonds, and he voiced Merry in Ralph Bakshi's animated The Lord of the Rings (1978). Later films include Vera Drake (2004) and Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (2006), along with The King's Speech (2010) and The Iron Lady (2011). He took the part of Ade Rutter in the opening series of House of Anubis, and has led television dramas such as Judge John Deed. His many credits range from Brideshead Revisited and The Singing Detective to Middlemarch, The Crown and Foyle's War, and he has appeared prominently on stage.
