Plot summary
Miranda Sámano's search begins in the tomb of one of her ancestors, where she finds a diary and no body. The entries were written in 1848, when Texas was Mexican territory, and their author is Amalia Sámano. The mysteries Amalia Sámano wrote into the diary push Miranda to travel illegally across the border, looking for her roots and her origin. There she begins a love affair with Matt, and their relationship looks like a continuation of the one between Amalia Sámano and Robert Crossman, a colonel in the Houston army, nearly 160 years earlier.
